Atlantic Council Millennium Leadership Program
About the Millennium Leadership Program
Enabling Innovative Ideas, Transformational Leadership, and Global Impact
Overview: Building on our fifty-three year history of convening exceptional next generation leaders, the Atlantic Council is launching the Millennium Fellowship to connect and empower rising leaders who will shape the twenty-first century. Through this unique two-year program, fellows will join a network of outstanding peers from around the world, have unparalleled opportunities to engage at flagship Atlantic Council events, learn directly from top experts and world leaders, and collaborate on projects with global impact. The fellowship is a central pillar of the Council's mission to promote constructive leadership and build enduring relationships capable of addressing shared global challenges.
In 2015, the Council is recruiting exceptional rising leaders thirty-five years old and under from around the world who share our passion for creating a more secure and prosperous world. Fellows will come from a wide range of backgrounds including policy experts, journalists, elected officials, military personnel, academics, entrepreneurs, executives, community and cultural leaders, and senior government officials. Above all, they will bring an entrepreneurial spirit, character to inspire and lead, positive vision, and passion for shaping the world to the fellowship.
Network: Join a global network of rising leaders and build life-long relationships through executive retreats and informal events.
Engagement: Attend two flagship Atlantic Council events each year—one in North America and one in Europe. In 2015, fellows will travel to Washington, DC, and Istanbul, Turkey, to participate in the April 2015 Distinguished Leadership Awards dinner and the November 2015 Istanbul Energy and Economic Summit, respectively, for meetings with senior experts and world leaders.
Skills: Develop leadership skills and policy expertise through advanced master classes, mentorship, and substantive engagement with Council programs and centers.
Impact: Collaborate on reports, events, and projects that shape policy and highlight innovative ideas, supported by impact project funding.
The Millennium Fellowship is an results-oriented program that enables fellows to shape the policy discourse and pursue careers that strengthen their local and global communities. Fellows commit to pro-actively seek opportunities to work together and to put the network, skills, and unique opportunities that the program offers to use throughout their careers.
Fellows commit to attend the full schedule for both in-person flagship events during the first year of their fellowship and at least one flagship event during their second year. The Council will cover all flights and lodging for both trips during the first year and will offer partial stipends for travel during the second year.
2015 dues for fellows in the for-profit sector are $950 annually and dues for all other fellows (military, academia, government, and nonprofit) are $450 annually. Dues cover all flights, lodging, and group meals for both trips during the first year (an estimated total cost of more than $5,000 per fellow). The Council offers a limited number of subsidies to cover part or all of the dues for fellows with demonstrated financial need.
A History of Success: A proven leader in bringing together today's top influencers and tomorrow's leaders, the Council has hosted next generation events featuring US Vice President Joe Biden, Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas, US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, among many others.
