"The New American Realism" Fairs Well in the EU
Editorial, The New York Sun | June 11, 2008
Some may be tempted to ignore Bush during his final tour of Europe, a US President on his way out does not need the same attention as one on his way in. ++ Bush’s presidency, however, has marked an epoch-making shift: the emphasis of US diplomacy moved away from stability concerns and toward the spread democratic freedom; an emphasis that is strengthening the Atlantic partnership. ++ Perhaps this is why Sarkozy, Merkel, and Berlusconi have turned out to be rather pro-American leaders, despite Bush’s quarrelsome presidency.
