A New "Hot" Spot in the Middle East.

Editorial, The Washington Post | March 2, 2009

Pakistan is the place where the US should concentrate, given the Taliban’s dominance in the Swat region and the recent ceasefire based on the adoption of sharia law. ++ Similar past agreements did little to prevent extreme Taliban regimes and risk the creation of a “haven” for Al Qaeda. ++ Obama now has a chance to be influential. ++ He should provide Pakistan with the military and economic aid, which it has requested, making it conditional on “reasserting government control over the western part of the country and defeating extremist forces.”
