From Tiananmen on: What Have We Learned?
Brahma Chellaney, The Times of India | October 30, 2008
There is a lesson to be learned from the West’s decision to integrate China into its fold following Tiananmen Square. ++ While China is still ruled by the same horrific party responsible for the Cultural Revolution, it is “a far cry from the Mao Zedong era.” ++ By applying the same “global liberalizing influences” to Russia, all will benefit from closer “peace and cooperation with Moscow.” ++ It seems as if both presidential candidates are content with hectoring Russia and ushering “in a second Cold War [that] can only damage US interests.”
