Getting a Handle on Leaks
Peter Grier, Christian Science Monitor | June 22, 2010
The recent attempt to prosecute a suspect in the WikiLeaks video posting on the Baghdad helicopter shooting incident demonstrates how difficult it is for the government to get a handle on classified information leaks. ++ The biggest problem remains the “inability…of the referring agency to identify everyone in the government who had access to the [leaked] information.” ++ The Justice Department recommends affected agencies “[deal] with suspected leakers internally – by actions such as firing them.” ++ This “may often be the best solution.”
