New US - Israel Relations Could Come at a Cost

Roger Cohen, New York Times | April 28, 2009

US foreign policy shows a desire to critique Israel, exemplified by Clinton's rebuke of Israel's reluctance to move on the peace efforts. ++ This development will benefit both states: it shows a new assessment of US interests and an awareness that Israel's interests have been hurt, not helped, by an uncritical US approach. ++ Pushing for new openings with regards to a Palestinian unity government; linking support vis-a-vis Iran policies with pressure on Israel are smart steps in a path to both Middle East peace deal and rapprochement with Iran.
