Failing missile shield negotiations with Poland are a symbol of decline of American influence and attractiveness under Bush. ++ Too much bad blood has been spilled between Washington and Warsaw, and the Poles are no longer prepared to blindly follow their ally. ++ The new Polish Prime Minister, Tusk, is prepared to adopt a much tougher stance in relations with the US. ++ Due to the Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib controversies Polish voters no longer automatically associate America with democracy and human rights.

The idea of Polish people being aware of human rights and having that maturity to use that as a yard stick to determine relations with particular states then indeed marks a great forward journey for a populace that earlier merely evoked a similarity with potatoes over certain ubiquity of presences and lack of vitamin C & folic acid.
This idea immediately makes one then expect to find results of Human Development indices and observance of Human Rights within Poland to show a similar forward movement. I am eagerly awaiting to read the findings of the relevant organizations and bodies to vindicate one's new found optimism for Poland and the Polish people!
