Steinmeier Turns the Page on the Bush Years

Daniel Broessler, Sueddeutsche Zeitung (in German) | February 4, 2009

Prior to his trip to the US, German FM Steinmeier has stated that he wants to start a new disarmament initiative, a cornerstone of the Obama administration. ++ Russia should also be addressed and the NATO-Russia Council revitalized, as dialogue is the only constructive approach in tense times. ++ As for Iran, the unprecedented chance the US government offers to discuss the nuclear program with Tehran ought to be seized straight away. ++ After the long Bush years, one notices that such opportunities don't arise every day.
