Strategy for A Renewed Russian Relationship

Obama and McCain's respective stances on Russia evoke a palpable difference in their demeanor. ++ "McCain is prepped for a new Cold War; Obama is looking for a thaw." ++ The foundations for McCain's positions were laid forth by the impetuous Bush administration, which balked at the notion of binding treaty obligations. ++ "McCain makes George W. Bush seem like a prudent statesman." ++ Renewed relations with Russia rest on efforts at staunching nuclear proliferation, an effort for which McCain seems woefully unsuited.

Yet the Statute of Liberty - of course a French export - then stands in a curious departure in its symbolising both the Enlightenment Period as well as the freedom of the human spirit. Any state would do well to have humans lead it that have a mind of their own and stand up - as persons and personalities - on their own merits (minus the distant-in-India prisoner camps many in the Bush administration seem to be running - for different reasons, with a confusion of mafiosi-modernity with the Mc World and non-participation in such world views of modernity - with either Jehadist mind-set or otherwise). But then such basic assumptions and hopes may be too tall an order for the present day United States steeped in a medieval crusade mentality - at least its Indian armies are decidedly that - over private issues of raising kids and singing to them lullabys. True. Statemen are people and humans who are real, and have both the vision and the gumption to stand a few years ahead - while living biologically in the same calendar year that the rest of their masses may live in. Europe is not a disappointment in this sense - though South Asia can only afford them severe limitations vis-a-vis their hired 'helps'.
Between symbols and realities - may the reality win.
