US Elections: Following in Clinton's Footsteps?

C. Lesnes, Le Monde Pais (in French) | November 3, 2010

President Obama needs to follow in Bill Clinton’s footsteps if he wants to succeed. ++ By compromising with the conservative Newt Gingrich, Clinton was able to secure re-election, despite Republican control of the House. ++ However, today’s situation is far more complex than it was in 1994. ++ The opposition is not united, as evident in the rise of the Tea Party, therefore striking deals will be difficult. ++ Nonetheless, Obama must try to curry favor with “the elusive center, which represents one out of three Americans.”

Unlike Clinton, Obama is not a pragmatic one. That is, the velocity of how he has passed legislation in regard to the stimulus moneys, health reform, financial reform, nationalization of the auto company and energy in progress, is clear evidence of the his faithful sentiment toward his "transformation" of America. That is, the historical gain of control for the republican party/ Tea partiers over the house will be critical for the future challenges Obama will face in order to continue his agenda. I personally think is going to be more of a gridlock than reaching a common ground. Finally, Tea Party is just beginning to unfold in the political arena. The very ones that Obama calls "enemies"- the Tea Party newly elected candidates- will be in his domain and sharing the same house. Interesting to see.
