Thomas L. Friedman, New York Times | October 29, 2009
The US needs to reduce its footprint in Afghanistan and start focussing on nation-building at home. ++ The US "does not have the Afghan partners, the NATO allies, the domestic support, the financial resources or the national interest to justify an enlarged and prolonged nation-building effort in Afghanistan." ++ Although withdrawal may create new threats, so will staying and a stronger America will have a greater chance of succeeding in the long run. ++ "A strong, healthy and self-confident America is what holds the world together."
