Wikileaks and the End Game in Afghanistan

Jaswant Singh, Project Syndicate, | August 10, 2010

The Wikileaks affair led to a particularly “vitriolic” reaction in Pakistan, where commentators cited it as evidence that “blood-thirsty Islamophobes [and] think tank irredentists [plan to] continue their blood-fest in …Afghanistan.” ++ The war has led to “a feeling of imperial revival.” ++ By targeting the Taliban, NATO has turned unwelcome foreigners into a force behind which Afghanis can unite, with the covert backing of the Pakistani. ++ President Obama must rethink US strategy in the “extraordinarily complex end game [that] is underway.”
