McKinsey: Multinational Acquisition Highlights China's Strength in a Global Economy

Representatives of the McKinsey consulting group in China sit down with Hong-Kong based Lenovo’s CFO Mary Ma for a conversation about the company’s 2005 acquisition of IBM’s personal-computer and how it speaks to China’s development as a modern industrial economy. Ma is widely recognized as one of China’s leading global executives. Her prominence in the realm of international business is both a token of China’s growth in “outbound foreign direct investment” and the interconnectedness of the global finance community: Ma worked at the government-run Chinese Academy of Sciences where she was involved with the World Bank. The interview centers around her brokering of the IBM deal and the changing trends in the Chinese business model.
