"Populist Temptations" Threaten EU Integration

Ongoing political and economic challenges put under pressure the existence of the Schengen travel zone and the euro. ++ Electoral success of populist parties in Finland and the Netherlands, North African refugees, the debt crisis, protests in Greece and Spain and the comeback of border controls in France and Denmark strengthen anti-EU sentiments and question the future of European integration. ++ The current political division between “globalisers and localisers” poses new threats to the stability of the EU.
