"The Berlin Wall: So Much Gained, So Much to Lose"

The fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 remains a major landmark in time, reminding us in the West of what has been won and what is still worth fighting for. ++ Globalisation has since lifted 500 million people out of absolute poverty and enabled the spread of ideas. ++ But economic integration has not been matched politically. ++ The West needs to recognize the shortcomings of globalisation, and try to bridge the gap between economic and political liberty, whilst "defending the enormous benefits that capitalism has brought the world since 1989."
