'Hu Jintao, Tear Down That Mao '
Dan Ryan, The Australian | November 17, 2009
Imagine what eastern Europe would look like today if the jubilant scenes at the Berlin wall in 1989 were replaced by a Tienanmen style military reaction. ++ Despite China's success, the former soviet states of eastern Europe are far healthier because the communist model was completely discredited. ++ This needs to happen in China too and Mao's legend must be torn down. ++ Until this happens “no matter how economically prosperous it becomes the Chinese state will remain a backward one, holding back the potential of its people.”
