2008: Remaking Transatlantic Relations
Andrew Moravcsik of Princeton University says that 2008 could be a "year of destiny for transatlantic relations". Regardless of the outcome, the American elections are likely to spark a change in US foreign policy and the European Union could take advantage of this to focus the attention of the new administration on the achievements of the EU. Nevertheless, before it can do this, the EU will have to ratify the EU constitutional treaty and create a more stable, unified Europe which can really work with America. If it succeeds, it will be able to make itself even stronger through further enlargement and establishing closer relations with North Africa. Newsweek, December 22, 2007
