Accommodating Pakistan's Interest in Afghanistan

David Pollock, The Washington Post | November 8, 2010

President Obama’s visit to India offers an opportunity for both the United States and India to revise and readjust their roles in Afghanistan. ++ The US has fuelled Pakistani paranoia by encouraging India to become the region's major economic player in Afghanistan. ++ If India limits its profile inside Afghanistan, Pakistan might agree to stop harboring extremists. ++ The US should understand that adjusting its policies to accommodate Pakistani interests is fundamental to US national interests in Afghanistan.
