America Secure in Global Leadership Role

William Antholis and Martin Indyk, Brookings | February 14, 2011

Recent talk about the eclipse of America by China is false. ++ The fact is that despite its great wealth, the average yearly Chinese income is half that of Mexico. ++ In all likelihood, emerging and established democratic powers will shape global economics and politics well into the next century. ++ The real question is not whether these countries will catch up, but whether the US can continue to grow in a way that lifts all boats, and whether it can help shape an emerging global order that avoids conflict and encourages greater freedom.

I like this comment! What's this?
This is not about per capita income , it`s about gross domestic product and how much of that GDP is used for military and diplomatic assertiveness.

A command economy can devote a greater % of it`s GDP than a democratic economy - USSR against the USA.

If the US or EU lose their nerve poorer but more resolved nations can assert themselves.
