Arab Spring Undermines Al-Qaeda

Omar Rashoun, The Daily Star | September 9, 2011

The Arab Spring has significantly weakened the influence of militant jihadist groups and delegitimized the use of violence and terrorism to attain political goals. ++ Following the popular uprisings that led to the overthrow of several dictators in the region, many former terrorist organizations are making the transition towards becoming conventional non-violent political parties.++ A decade after 9/11 Al-Qaeda has become a highly decentralized and fragmented organization with fewer supporters and less opportunity to expand in the Arab world.
