Berlusconi and Sarkozy: More Than Energy Friends

Editorial, Corriere della Sera (in Italian) | February 25, 2009

Berlusconi and Sarkozy have signed an agreement to increase cooperation over nuclear energy and enhance collaboration in related sectors. ++ Yet the get-together turned out to be a compliment race more than an energy agreement. ++ The two leaders extensively commented on their respective successes in dealing with domestic and foreign policy issues, albeit with poor empirical evidence. ++ According to Berlusconi, the summit confirmed that Rome and Paris share a common vision for how to set the rules of the game on the EU stage.

I like this comment! What's this?
The problem about Berlusconi and Sarkozy is that they do not delve deeper into an issue. They restrict their collaboration on a superficial basis. And the general impression one is having, is that they care more about their image than concrete facts. It has been since many years that Italy decided by a referendum to disable nuclear facilities, but as a matter of fact the actual Italian leader is wisely ignoring it.
I find it easy and irresponsible to decide to invest in nuclear energy rather than in renewables: what we actual need is a hope for the Earth and the future.
Outward appearance should be left aside in politics.
