Bush's China Policy Will Outlast His Presidency

Philip Stephens, Financial Times | June 30, 2008

Sino-American ties are likely to be the most important component of international relations for the next several decades. ++ The question is whether China’s re-emergence can be managed without a conflict. ++ Powerful voices on the right of US politics want a tougher stance against China. ++ But there is no clearer expression of the interdependence that comes with globalisation than between China and US. ++ Engagement is the best mean for both McCain’s concern about security and Obama’s awareness of human rights issue.
