CSIS Recommendations for a Smarter, More Secure America

The United States has to revitalize its ability to inspire and persuade rather than merely rely upon its military might, argues a bipartisan Commission on Smart Power at Center for Strategic and International Security Studies. The commission, chaired by Richard Armitage and Joseph Nye, published a report with recommendations for how the next president of the United States can implement a smart power strategy.

The United States should invest in “the global good” by “providing things people and governments in all quarters of the world want but cannot attain in the absence of American leadership.”
