Chinese and US Interests at Play in Pakistan

Syed Saleem Shahzad, Asia Times | October 5, 2010

Despite military and aid funding, the US is reviled by a hawkish group of generals within Pakistan. ++ This manifested itself recently in the closure of the Khyber Pass, the main NATO supply route between Pakistan and Afghanistan. ++ This is set against the backdrop of increasing Chinese influence in the country which is more positively perceived as “just wanting to do business”. ++ The US cannot take the cooperation of its most-valued non-NATO partner for granted and this could signal a decline in Washington-Islamabad relations.
