Europe Leads a War Against Immigration

Philippe Legrain, The Guardian | August 8, 2008

Despite the EU's claim to be the continent of human rights, immigrants are being mistreated in Spain and Italy. ++ Furthermore, the EU strengthens efforts to close its borders and approved a "return directive," which allows governments to detain unauthorised migrants for up to 18 months. ++ The EU must to recognize the fact that not every undocumented migrant is a criminal and it needs these persons in order to balance its ageing societies. ++ Instead of spending money on foreign aid, integration efforts should be enhanced.

I like this comment! What's this?
I certainly agree with you. The point is to be convinced first that migration will continue no matter what happens. As long as there are poverty and injustice on the other side of the sea, people will continue to move upword. Once politicians would be convinced with that, they will look at the matter from your eye. Offensive strategies are no more a solution!!

Thank you for this superb article.

" Detain unauthorised inmigrants for up to 18 months"

Sounds familiar. Where have I heard something like this before? Another country - incredibly evil....

Hmmmm. Have to think about that......
