Georgia in Desperate Need for Western Help
Alex Rondosormer, former Ambassador of Greece | May 9, 2008
Russia is increasing military means in Georgia that show striking parallels with Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus. ++ NATO members argue Georgia’s state of democratization needs to improve before they are willing to risk souring relations with Russia, but it is overlooked that much more is at stake here. ++ Despite EU and NATO bureaucratic considerations, Western help in general is required. ++ “A small war will occur on the eastern edge of Europe. It will be bloody.” ++ Serious diplomacy is needed now.
