Hatoyama's Dream Could Turn Into a Nightmare

Tim Kelly, Forbes | September 1, 2009

There is nothing worse than Japan’s new PM's vision of economic nationalism and protectionism. ++ As an exporting country with a weak domestic economy, Tokyo relies on other nations maintaining free markets to ensure corporate profits for Toyota, Sony, Panasonic and the rest of Japan's economic giants. ++ Although Japan's 100 million voters have given Hatoyama four years to prove that he can transform the country they don’t want to live on his fantasy island of an Asian union bound together by a common currency.
