How to Defeat Taliban Insurgency
David Miliband, UK Foreign Secretary | July 27, 2009
The international community must show Afghans that they will not be deserted to Taliban retribution. ++ The weaknesses of the insurgency must be considered: "It
is a... shallow coalition of convenience... [and] deeply unpopular." ++ "Success against Taliban requires legitimate local politics." ++ Successful elections and the decisions of the future Afghan government are vital. ++ The Taliban insurgency must be divided; the population must be appeased and supported and dialogue with neighbouring states, namely Pakistan, has to be improved.
