Is Hugo Chavez a Real Threat to the US?

Jackson Diehl, The Washington Post | September 28, 2010

With the latest elections in Venezuela, Hugo Chávez has become the focus of debate in the United States. ++ For many, Chávez’s plans to implement a Cuban style economic and political model which will rubber stamp his own decrees could prove to be a threat for the US. ++ A new sensation is his alleged clandestine support for Iran’s nuclear program, which if not tackled now, could become a new problem for America in the long run. ++ If Venezuela does not pose a threat to the United States, it is not from lack of trying.

As long as Chavez is in power, Venezuela will be a treat to the US. It is clear that Hugo Chavez dislikes the American political model and policy. He keeps bringing out 'Marxist socialism' system as preferred model for societies. For President Chavez "capitalism is evil, you cannot regulate evil. You have to eliminate it and replace it". He uses this as his main excuse to reach out other states that are particularly not US friendly. While Chavez continues in power he will certainly be a treat to the US.
