Israel's Strategic Imperative

Editorial, Haaretz | November 16, 2009

Syrian President Bashar Assad's call for the resumption of negotiations with Israel, demonstrates his commitment to reaching a peace deal. ++ Netanyahu should accept his offer for talks as a peace agreement with Syria would give Israel important strategic advantages. ++ The alliance Iran is leading against Israel would weaken, Hezbollah would be reined in and Israel would gain another recognized border with a neighboring country. ++ Netanyahu now needs to show real commitment to his partner in Damascus.
