It is Crucial to Bring Serbia Closer to Europe

Bozidar Djelic, deputy prime minister of Serbia | August 4, 2008

The extradition of Karadzic was hailed as a watershed in the relations between the EU and Serbia but great challenges still lie ahead. ++ It is important that the EU now shows its support by implementing the recently signed Stabilisation and Association Agreement, giving Serbia a candidate status, and including it in the Schengen zone. ++ Bringing Serbia closer to Europe could begin an unprecedented period of peace and stability in the western Balkans, which is in EU’s interest both politically and economically.
