Mubarak to Realign Egypt-US Axis

Dina Ezzat, Al-Ahram Weekly | August 19, 2009

Egypt hopes to become Washington’s primary Middle Eastern partner following a visit to the US this weekend by President Hosni Mubarak. ++ The Bush regime served to undermine bilateral ties but Cairo could now be prepared to compromise. ++ “There is ‘a sense of ease’, says one diplomat, over the policy of non-interference the Obama administration is adopting vis-à-vis Egypt's domestic affairs.” ++ Successful cooperation must take the form of economic links and investment in a closer bilateral partnership.
