Myanmar Opposition: Not Much Room for Manoeuvre

Now that Myanmar’s opposition leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been freed, she needs to move cautiously. ++ While she was imprisoned, the opposition movement in Myanmar embraced different tactics. ++ It now prefers to operate within the system, rather than against it. ++ Hence, Suu Kyi will need to work together with other opposition leaders in order not to weaken the movement. ++ It must be remembered that the regime remains oppressive, and it will take a lot of patience to bring about change.
