Need for a New Way to Track African GDP

Philippe Askenazy, Le Monde (in French) | March 31, 2010

Africa is often viewed as a hopeless continent that is unable to develop. ++ A recent MIT report proves these assumptions wrong: both the difficulty to collect information and the importance of the underground economy distort estimations. ++ This study has proved that aid to the continent is more efficient than first assessed. ++ There is an urgent need to find alternative ways to measure growth and development. ++ Like in post-war Europe, health, modern equipment and nutrition are necessary to overcome development stagnation.
