Obama's Asian Odyssey

Editorial, Independent | November 13, 2009

“Barack Obama sent a forceful message about his foreign policy priorities” by preferring to prepare for his 9-day Asian visit then join the celebrations in Berlin. ++ Although China has been the focus of successive US Presidents its current economic role and its currency reserves mean it has “sped up” the list of concerns. ++ In order to contain the dragon Obama is sandwiching his China visit in-between trips to Japan and South Korea to tackle “a host of regional problems: from North Korea's nuclear intentions to Burma's isolation.”
