Obama Should Never Placate a Dictator

Nicholas D. Kristof, The New York Times | April 22, 2010

Despite pledging to pressure Sudan during his campaign, Obama has failed to take action to combat crimes against humanity committed by President Omar Hassan al-Bashir. ++ Moreover, he sent a special envoy who approved of a corrupt election and has not yet addressed the separatist movement in the country's oil-rich south. ++ "Memo to Mr. Obama: When a man who has been charged with crimes against humanity tells the world that America is in his pocket, it's time to review your policy."

Obama is the Traitor, Liar, Fascist, Terrorist.

Why would any civilised country believe an UNCivilised country like the USA? The Bush/Obama Fascist Governments are without doubt the worst Terrorist Country on the planet.
They have murdered thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan,Pakistan, and other countries, then blame the murders on some unknown terrorist group. But everyone knows that Blackwater is America's Murder Inc. that have been guaranteed by the US Government that there would be NO Charges against them for murder.
Therefore; they have shot down innocent men, women, and children for target practice, and no one does anything for these people caught up in an Illegal War by the USA & UK. The whole intent is greed, theft, rape, robbery, destruction of an entire country, and the War Criminals are never charged or Hung.

The USA government and fascist military are offended when these innocent civilians actually fight back?

I applaud the Muslims defending their country, and families from the US & UK Nazi Fasacists.

This is a very well written article that accurately talks about the holes in the Administrations policy toward Sudan. However, it doesn't address the geopolitical complexities surrounding Sudan due to the high level of political contact and investment by China. China's role in Sudan is very important to better understand the actions of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.

China has been able to invest in Sudan's oil fields because of a lack of civil society in China protesting Beijing's policies, coupled by immense civil society pressure not to fully engage President al-Bashir in the West, most notably in Europe but also through Human Rights Watch in New York. And until China's civil society becomes stronger and better able to check its government, there is no reason not to expect China's investment activities vis-a-vis Sudan to continue.

In 2009, the Obama administration embarked on a year of global engagement, highlighted by a policy of "Strategic reassurance" on China and "Restart" on Russia. Does the Administration's policy on Sudan simply an offshoot of these larger foreign policy goals? I would say yes, absolutely. However, given recent difficulties in the US-China relationship, Foggy Bottom could be well on its way towards the stronger policy that Kristof calls for.

This issue with Sudan is so much more complicated then Obama putting pressure on al-Bashir. We set up a system of the United Nations that we should all follow and adhere to. Sure, more could be done, but its a very complicated matter in a sovereign country.
