Taking office upon a promise of "a rupture" with French national and foreign policy, Nicolas Sarkozy differentiates himself from his predecessors through the active role he assumes in the international arena. ++ The current crisis in Gaza is a crisis which may well "measure up to Sarkozy’s metabolism." ++ His different approach towards the US and Israel -- he publicly stated that he admires both countries while still maintaining France as a major influence in the Arab world -- suggests the President's peace attempts should be given a chance.
