Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine and South Africa all voluntarily gave up nuclear stockpiles. ++ Pakistan should do the same. ++ The US should offer the Pakistani government the $100bn it has asked for over a 10 year period, along with jet fighters, tanks and attack helicopters. ++ The US has plans to extend its nuclear umbrella to Israel; why not to Pakistan as well? ++ Controlling Pakistan would thus become less appealing for Islamists. ++ The secular state that lost 1500 civilians to terror in 2007 could start caring for its people.
