Palestine Remains Divided

Saleh Al-Naami, Al-Ahram | October 19, 2009

As the fallout from the Goldstone Report continues, Palestinians are looking to attempts at reconciliation domestically. ++ The failure to act against Israel has led to the postponement of talks in Egypt later this month between Hamas and Fatah, leaving peace a remote prospect. ++ "When Abbas attacks Hamas and talks about the 'emirate of darkness' in Gaza, it is clear any reconciliation agreement will not end internal strife." ++ It has been “demonstrated that Abbas was 'not serious' about ending inter-Palestinian divisions.”
