Red Herrings in Eurozone Recovery Efforts

Wolfgang Münchau, Financial Times | May 31, 2010

The economic crisis continues to grip the continent, yet instead of pursuing “a strategy based on growth and a credible fiscal adjustment plan,” eurozone governments have chosen to blame speculators and promote unreasonable austerity packages. ++ A better strategy is to “encourage domestic demand in northern Europe” and create a “new functional system of economic governance.” ++ If governments do not enact such reforms, they will contribute to the disintegration of the eurozone.
