Security Rivalry Between the US and China Inevitable
Steven M. Walt, Harvard University | April 28, 2010
If China continues its present course, a security rivalry with the United States is inevitable. ++ China is currently traveling the same path the United States did on its march to world power: building its economy, expanding its naval capabilities, and excluding other great powers from its immediate neighborhood. ++ An open war between the United States and China is by no means inevitable, but we “should expect significant security competition between Washington and Beijing in the decades ahead.”
