The Danger of a League of Democracies
Robert Skidelsky, Member of the British House of Lords | June 30, 2008
Senator McCain's call for a "League of Democracies" would be a danger rather than an aid to world peace. ++ With both Russia and China excluded, the league would be unable to combat the most pressing global matters: terrorism, climate change, and nuclear proliferation. ++ McCain's plan could even create a Cold War-like tension between democratic and autocratic states. ++ The League of Democracies would only seek to "legitimize war-making by democracies." ++ Western Europe must take a firm stand against establishing such a body.

Recent disclosures tend to prove how the Administartion has undermined the Constitution etc in pursuit of the neo-con dream and,
reportedly, Iraqi oil. The Supreme Court judgment on 'enemy combatants' has earned the US some esteem in the world.
Peaceful coexistence is the key to the world peace. It will also allow the
new US Administartion to regain the respect/ goodwill/ credibility lost by the US in the last 7 years.
