The EU Should Be the Leader of a New Globalization
José Manuel Durão Barroso, EC President (in French)| April 3, 2009
Is de-globalization the magic solution to escape the economic crisis? No, it would be the biggest mistake. ++ Protectionism and nationalism are false friends and, as history has proven, responsible for poverty and conflicts. ++ What we need is a new regulating framework based on ethical principles with the mantra "liberty, responsibility, solidarity." ++ As the most advanced example of a transnational institution, presenting itself with a common message at the G20, the EU is in an ideal position to be the motor of a reformed globalization.
