Peace in Gaza should be brought about by the international community. ++ Great idea, but opposition from the Israeli government and Hamas are difficult obstacles to overcome. ++ There are therefore two options left: the international community should provide humanitarian relief in cooperation with Hamas, or it should focus on “genuine Palestinian reconciliation.” ++ The latter option demands among other things the consolidation of humanitarian assistance and the provision of protection against Israeli attacks.
