Turkey Should be the Home of Europe
Murat Daoudov, Today's Zaman | September 24, 2009
Long overshadowed by the EU the Council of Europe must reboot itself, relocating the HQ to Istanbul which conveniently straddles the two halves of its membership. ++ “The choice of Istanbul will symbolize the multicultural Europe of the 21st century.” ++ As Turkey plays an increasingly important role in the Balkan disputes and as a halfway house to Iran, its role is vital to a successfully pan-European community. ++ Although Kiev and St. Petersburg are also legitimate candidates the “accessibility of Istanbul is a clear asset” as no visa is needed.
