UK Must Shed Neo-Liberal Fears

Will Hutton, The Guardian | January 27, 2009

Nothing can stop increased unemployment, and the young will be hit hardest. ++ The labor market is a social institution which touches on all parts of society. ++ Some companies try to avoid laying off workers, wanting to re-train them instead, but the UK government is not supporting this. ++ We need state-subsidies for people who educate themselves instead of becoming unemployed, we need incentives to hire new workers, and we need special attention to unfilled positions. ++ The crisis created by financiers is now hurting our children.
