US Policy on Pakistan Needs to Change

Robert Templer, International Crisis Group | September 1, 2008

There is no quick fix for Pakistan. ++ Policies need to put the Pakistani people ahead of public figures, and institutions ahead of simplistic solutions. ++ The economy needs to be stabilized and an international plan to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and education should be the next step. ++ US partisan politics undercut democracy and create greater instability. ++ The unaccountable military should work with the neglected civilian intelligence and only when there is judicial and prison reform, can the state be secure.
