What America Has Lost after 9/11

' reaction to September 11 was the result of a shock to an established and secure American system. ++ Nonetheless, the measures taken so far to tackle the menace of terrorism are more "damaging" than the attack itself. ++ The rise of a "national security state," with an extended intelligence apparatus, is affecting every aspect of American life. ++ The vastness of the security network has also increased the chances of errors. ++ It seems as if, while securing itself, America has started a war within.
