Why Britain's Student Protests Turned Ugly
Anne Applebaum, Slate | December 15, 2010
Student protests in the UK last week were marked by increasing levels of violence. ++ Students dislike being told to tighten their belts by an older generation that enjoyed free tuition and now looks forward to secure retirement. ++ Many of Britain’s leftist protestors resemble Greek anarchists, who smashed shop and bank windows in Athens in 2008. ++ The problem is that young Brits have no political outlet for their anger, as the Labour Party is busy licking its wounds after the electoral defeat and bears much of the blame for the economic crisis.
