Why the EU Fails in a Multipolar World

The financial crisis evoked the necessity of a rebalancing of the global power equilibrium and of Europe’s status in it. ++ “Nowadays, there is both too much and too little Europe”. ++ While European countries are overrepresented in the world’s premier forums, Europe lacks influence, because of its heterogeneity. ++ “The absurdity of Italy’s presence in the G-8, together with the lack of official membership for countries such as China… is no longer acceptable.” ++ Despite its complexity, Europe must act as one to be taken seriously.
